For summer time maintenance, Muller Beltex prepares an inspection report with recommendations taking into account urgencies and the available budget. Many concrete mixing plants perform maintenance on their installations during the construction holiday. They aim to bring their plants back up to date so as to optimise performance in terms of capacity, as well as the service life of wear components. Muller Beltex is regularly involved in this and first conducts an on-site inspection that in detail reviews the product overshoot area’s, chutes and bunkers, as well as the abrasion-resistant Kryptane® liners to determine whether it is due for replacement. Overhaul makes elevator better than ever. Muller Beltex has worked for IGMA for many years and is jointly responsible for the installations. The work we performed Elaborate inspections of the technical components of one of the floating weighing towers, a 36 MT crane with a capacity of 1500 MT/hour. The report showed that certain components required action in order to guarantee reliability; preventive and corrective maintenance. Belt replacement Wear on the back of the bucket elevator belt was observed making the belt’s replacement a necessity. This was also true for the rubber pulley lagging of both drive pulleys. The crowning of the return pulleys, which was too much, exerted unnecessarily high forces and friction on the belt, as well as on the belt fastener and elevator buckets. Proper planning By preparing a suitable and thorough action plan, with a realistic time span for implementing the inspection report’s recommendations, it was decided to carry out the various activities in a single efficient stop. Inspection revealed that the elevator belt was due for replacement, and it needed new wear plates. This work was carried out in a single stop to prevent many unnecessary standstills. Codrico Rotterdam BV recently told us its elevator used for the intake of raw materials was behaving erratically. Wear of the pulley’s lagging was putting the elevator belt out of alignment, so that the misalignment monitoring system issued constant alarms. Closer inspection revealed that the elevator belt was due for replacement, and it needed new wear plates. All this work was combined and the assembly was carried out in a single stop to prevent many unnecessary standstills. Activities progress The drive pulley and the elevator belt were lifted from the elevator together. The first assembly team could then disassemble the elevator buckets, which were still in good condition. The buckets were able to be attached to the new belt immediately because the new elevator belt had already been punched and delivered. Muller Beltex regularly performs inspections on bucket elevators Inspection of wheat elevator to prevent stoppages Muller Beltex regularly performs inspections on elevators in order to monitor their status. By carrying out inspections, we can prevent many stoppages caused by calamities. After completing an inspection, we draw up an extensive report explaining the situation to the client. This is followed by a comprehensive quote including a work plan describing what actions are required. Based on a phased plan, the actions are performed in a controlled way and all associated risks are identified to ensure that the work is performed safely. During this inspection of a wheat elevator, for example, a tower crane was needed to replace the drive roller. The inspection was performed while the drive roller at the top of the elevator was being replaced. Polysur® 275 K NBR elevator belt Flame-retardant NBR elevator belt increases safety in elevator The demand for safety in and around the elevator is an issue subject to adaptations of the relative applicable directives. Statistics describe the elevator as one of the most hazardous pieces of equipment because of real risk of explosion. 30-40 percent of dust explosions involve elevators. An enclosed system combined with the conveying of flammable bulk material, oxygen and possible ignition sources explain this risk of explosion. Research has shown that this can be prevented and damage can be effectively limited with various preventive and curative process monitoring systems. To prevent the spread of fire and further limit the risk of explosion one can opt for an antistatic ISO 284 and flame-retardant ISO 340 (= DIN–K-) elevator belt. The advantage of the Rub-Block is the fact that it will send a continuous output signal to the PLC. Maxi-Ultra elevator belt fastener The Maxi-Ultra elevator belt fastener is a Muller Beltex engineered and developed product which is fitted with a replaceable NBR or heat resistant wear part on the aluminium wedge section. The rubber part wears down rather than the surface of the elevator belt. This increases the safety in the clamp fastener. Maxi-Ultra is widely applicable for several types of belt in the Polysur range (belt thickness «10 mm) because of the radius in the belt fastener. This product is lighter then other fastener from our product portfolio. All things considered, the fastener makes a substantial contribution to increasing the lifespan of the elevator belt.

Rub-Block with a PT100 sensor The Rub-Block RB200DN with a PT100 temperature sensor is designed to report the misalignment of a conveyor or elevator belt. The advantage of the Rub-Block is the fact that it will send a continuous output signal to the PLC. The Rub-Block emits a permanent life standby signal. If such a signal is absent, this must be investigated and if required the PT100 sensor must be replaced. As long as the Rub-Block emits a standby signal, it will also emit an emergency contact signal caused by its temperature rising, as soon as a belt touches it. Off-tracking belts running into the side of conveyor equipment will cause friction, which may cause damage to the belt, and may generate heat, fire, or a dust explosion. The Rub-Block is very easy to install, it will be fitted on both sides of a conveyor or elevator belt. Once the belt off-tracks and runs onto the brass plate of the Rub-Block, it will create friction and the temperature of the Rub-Block brass plate increases.

Muller Beltex POLYSUR® type 272 white NBR-FDA rubber elevator belts are fully conform U.S. Food and Drug Adm. Reg. and are super oil and fat resistant as well anti-static acc. to ISO 284. Muller Beltex of The Netherlands and UK have recently introduced a needle felt material called Polyveyor which is specially designed for use in air slides, fluidising discs and cones, and as aeration pads, particularly in the cement industry. Traditional air flow belts are usually of a solid woven construction. This type of belt can have hot spots caused by uneven air flow through the weave, leading to lack of fluidity and reduced capacity. Polyveyor gives an even air distribution to ensure a good cushion for a consistent flow with virtually no abrasion wear. Unlike solid woven belts, Polyveyor does not need to have the edges heat or silicone sealed to prevent air loss, and the needle felt material is easy to cut and drill for flange fitting. Extensive testing by Spoornet Transwerk (South African Railways) for their cement applications has proved that Polyveyor not only gives consistently good flow rates, but has shown no particulate infiltration to retard the
